Spring 2024 - Recreational Softball League
Our league plays games against teams from Long Hill, Somerset Hills, and Warren.
Open to anyone who resides or attends school in Basking Ridge or Far Hills.
Rec softball season is from March 25 through June 15.
ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOMED AND ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE!
Schedule Overview
Pigtails - Kindergarten & 1st • The Pigtails League is a non-competitive introduction to the game. It is intended for a wide range of abilities, including both experienced and first-time players.
• We focus on having fun while teaching the fundamentals of the game: throwing, hitting, fielding, catching, basic game play, and sportsmanship.
• Outs will be enforced on bases, but score will not be kept, and balls & strikes will not be called.
• Coaches pitch to batters. Coaches on the field to provide instruction and support.
• All players in the batting order.
• Interleague teams consisting of Basking Ridge, Warren, and Somerset Hills
• All Weekday games start @ 6 PM; All Weekend games could be 9, 11, 1, or 3 PM.
* Fridays 6:00 p.m. & Saturday 1:00 p.m.
Practice & Game on Same Day
• The Minors League is open to both experienced and first-time players.
• Emphasis is placed on having fun and learning the fundamentals of the game. Coaches on the field to provide instruction and support.
• This level features a combination of coach and player pitching. To keep the game
moving, players throw a maximum of 5 pitches per batter and then coach takes over pitching. Pitching distance is 32'.
• All players in the batting order.
• Interleague teams consisting of Basking Ridge, Warren, Long Hill and Somerset Hills
• All Weekday games start @ 6 PM; All Weekend games could be 9, 11, 1, or 3 PM.
• 2 games + 1 practice per week on Mondays,
*Monday, Wednesday, or Saturdays
Majors - 4th & 5th grades
• Focus is on continuing to learn the fundamentals of the game and having fun, while learning to compete. Scores and standings will be kept.
• This level is player pitch. Pitching distance is 35'.
• Rules are in place to limit base stealing and walks.
• Interleague teams consisting of Basking Ridge, Warren, Long Hill and Somerset Hills
• All Weekday games start @ 6 PM; All Weekend games could be 9, 11, 1, or 3 PM.
• 2 games + 1 practice per week on Tuesdays,
* Tuesday, Thursdays, or Saturdays.
Seniors - 6th, 7th, and 8th grades
• More competitive play with slight rule modifications, including leading and stealing of any base. Pitching distance is 40'. Scores and standings will be kept.
• Interleague teams consisting of Basking Ridge, Warren, Long Hill and Somerset Hills.
• All Weekday games start @ 6 PM; All Weekend games could be 9, 11, 1, or 3 PM.
• 2 games + 1 practice per week on Tuesdays,
*Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays.
Registration Fee and Work Bond
Pigtails: $150 registration fee. Registration closes February 23, 2024.
* Pigtails registration fee includes full uniform (pants, jersey, and socks), field and game costs, and insurance.
Minors, Majors, & Seniors: $245 early bird registration fee before February 16; $300 fee after February 16. Registration closes February 23, 2024.
* Minors/Majors/Seniors registration fee includes uniform (jersey and socks), field and game costs, and insurance. Black softball pants must be purchased separately.
Minors, Majors, & Seniors also will be charged a $100 work bond per family. The work bond will be due via a post-dated check when uniforms are issued, and will be returned after completion of one hour volunteer time. The work bond/volunteer requirement is necessary to support our growing program and can be satisfied by coaching, assisting with Ridge Youth Softball Day, helping with fundraising, or participating in many other volunteer opportunities.

Please email if you’d like to try out but cannot make your age group's tryout date.
Eligibility
You MUST be registered to play rec in order to tryout for the travel team. Please refer to the age chart at the bottom of the page to determine the eligible age group.
Costs
There is NO COST to tryout.
Once selected, team fees will vary based on the number of tournaments and the type of leagues that the team is participating in.
As a reference: Historically, Spring and Summer fees (Mid-March through end of July) is approximately $600 - $800 total.

Uniforms
We are on a new 2-year cycle of uniforms. All players selected for the travel team will have to purchase new uniforms this year.
Uniform cost will be approximately $150, and includes 2 jerseys (home and away), 1 pair of pants, 1 pair of socks, and 1 belt.
